OCG Impulse 2026 in Linz Focused on Digital Education and Artificial Intelligence
The OCG Impulse 2026 event in Linz was dedicated to digital education, artificial intelligence, and the question of how schools can best prepare young people for the challenges of the future. A special highlight of the event was the recognition of the most successful ICDL schools from Upper Austria, Salzburg, Lower Austria, Tyrol, and Vorarlberg.
These ICDL schools demonstrate impressively how digital skills can be embedded sustainably and systematically into teaching. Through their exceptional commitment, they enable their students to acquire internationally recognized digital competencies, making an important contribution to preparing them for further education, higher education, and future careers.
In addition to the award ceremony, the event offered valuable insights into current developments in digital education. Wilfried Seyruck, President of OCG, and Alfred Klampfer, Director of Education for Upper Austria, opened the event and emphasized the growing importance of digital competencies in both schools and society.
In his keynote address, AI expert Nahed Hatahet highlighted the opportunities that artificial intelligence offers for learning and explained why teachers remain indispensable even in an increasingly digitalized educational landscape. His key message was clear: while AI can support individualized learning processes, it cannot replace empathy, personal guidance, or the human relationships that are central to education.
New: E-Learning for ICDL AI 2.0
There are also exciting developments within ICDL. Ronald Bieber, Secretary General of OCG, presented the new e-learning course for the ICDL Artificial Intelligence module, launched as part of the transition to ICDL AI 2.0. The modern learning program not only provides a solid understanding of AI fundamentals but also promotes a reflective and competent approach to using these emerging technologies.
Attendees also gained first insights into the topic of AI testing, presented by Thomas Geretschläger from Sophia Testing. He outlined innovative approaches that may play an important role in the future assessment of AI competencies and AI-supported applications.
The focus of the afternoon, however, remained on the educational institutions that are already successfully implementing digital education in practice. The award-winning ICDL schools demonstrate that the long-term development of digital skills is most successful when dedicated teachers, innovative concepts, and clear quality standards work together.
